O you from whom I hide my love,

yet it shows in me and will not stay hidden.

He sees me and knows my love for him,

yet hides from me that he already knows.

Will you let me unfold what I have folded

between my ribs, or are you bashful?

For you are joy, and you are affliction,

and you are healing, and you are sickness.

I remembered times when there was love,

and, by my life, I was as you suspect.

So if I am under suspicion in love,

and my eyes mingle water with blood,

then why is it that, when my eye sees

you, the tears cannot help streaming?
