ياO إِخوَتيmy brothers إِنّيindeed I am لَمَوضِعُsurely an object of رَحمَةٍcompassion
لَوif أَنَّthat مَنthe one يُشكىcomplaints are made إِلَيهِto him رَحيمُmerciful
O my brothers, I am indeed deserving of compassion,
Oh my brothers, I am an object of mercy
if the one to whom complaints are made were merciful.
If only the one complained to was compassionate
لَزِمَتshe persisted in ظَلومُZalum خِلافَopposition to أَمريmy will كُلِّهِall of it
وَأَطاعَهاand it obeyed her قَلبٌa heart عَلَيَّfor me مَشومُill-omened
Zalum has persisted in defying my every wish,
The unjust would stick to opposing all my affairs
and a heart that bodes me ill has obeyed her.
And a heart cursed against me would obey it
وَتَغَيَّرَتand she changed عَمّاfrom what عَهِدتُI knew وَإِنَّهُand indeed it
حَدَثٌan event عَلَيَّupon me مِنَof البَلاءِaffliction عَظيمُgreat
And she has changed from what I knew of her; indeed, this
And it changed from what I was accustomed to, and indeed
is a great affliction that has befallen me.
A great calamity has befallen me
مَلَّتshe grew tired of ظَلومُZalum مَوَدَّتيmy affection وَتَخَلَّقَتand she feigned affection
لَيتَif only التَخَلُّقَthe feigned affection مِنfrom ظَلومَZalum يَدومُwould endure
Zalum has tired of my love and feigned affection;
The unjust grew weary of my affection and pretended
would that Zalum's feigned affection might endure!
If only the pretense of the unjust would last
