ياO فَوزُFawz ماnot ضَرَّharmed مَنone who أَمسىreached evening وَأَنتِand you لَهُhis
أَنthat لاnot يَفوزَhe should win بِدُنياwith the worldly riches of آلِthe house of عَبّاسِAbbas
O Fawz, it does not harm one who ends the day with you as his
O success, what harm to one who spends the night under your care
not to win the worldly riches of the house of Abbas.
That he gains no worldly success like the Abbasid family
لَوif يَقسِمُwere to distribute اللَهُGod جُزءاًa portion مِنof مَحاسِنِهاher charms

If God were to distribute a portion of her beauty
If God were to apportion beauty among mankind piecemeal
among all people, beauty would be complete in them all.
Beauty would be perfected among the people
أَبصَرتُI saw شَيباًgray hair بِمَولاهاon her master فَواso, oh! عَجَباwhat a wonder

I saw gray hair on her master—oh, how astonishing
I saw gray hair in her master, how wondrous
that one who sees her should have gray hair appear on his head!
For one who sees her while gray hair shows on his head
