إِنَّindeed شَوقيmy longing إِلَيكِfor you (feminine) لَوif شِئتُI wished أَنthat يَز'increase' (first part)
دادَ'increase' (continuation) شَيئاًa little لَماwould not وَجَدتُI found مَزِيداfurther increase
Indeed, my longing for you—if I wished it to increase
My longing for you, if I wanted it to increase
Even a little, I would find no room for more.
I would find no more to add
وَلَوand if اَنَّthat اللِقاءَthe meeting مِنfrom قَبلِbefore أَنthat يَر'return' (first part)
تَدَّ'return' (continuation) طَرفيmy glance رَأَيتُI considered ذاكَthat بَعيداfar off
And even if the meeting came before
And if I saw you before parting glances
My glance returned, I would deem that far off.
I would see that from afar
حَجَبواthey barred دُونَهاfrom reaching her الأَمانيthe hopes وَإِنّيand indeed I
جاهِدٌstriving أُعمِلُI put to work الرَجاءَhope وَحيداalone
They have barred hopes of reaching her, and I
Desires have veiled her from me, though
Strive alone, putting hope to work.
I struggle on, relying on hope alone
فَلَوso if اَنّاthat we نَرىwe see ظُلَيمَةَẒulaymah يَوماًone day
لَاِتَّخَذناهُwe would surely make it آخِرَthe end of الدَهرِtime عيداa feast day
So if we were to see Ẓulaymah one day,
If we saw a day of darkness
We would make it a feast day until the end of time.
We would take it as a celebration lasting forever
