فَباعَدتُso I distanced نَفسيmyself لِاِلتِماسِin pursuit of التَقَرُّبِcloseness
I found that keeping my distance drew me closer to you,
I saw you draw me near, then pull away
So I distanced myself in pursuit of closeness.
So I withdrew myself, that I might find a way back to you
لَتَركيsurely, my leaving لَكُمof you (plural) وَالوُدُّwhile affection فيهِin it بَقِيَّةٌa remnant

Indeed, leaving you while a remnant of affection remains,
My love for you remains, though we’re apart
Which I hope for, and while the cord has not been severed,
I nurture hope, though the rope is fraying
أَحَبُّdearer لِنَفسيto myself مِنthan فِراقٍparting عَلىin قِلاًhatred

Is dearer to me than parting in hatred,
I wish myself a little absence now
When every wish for your affection has eluded me.
Though all I wished from you is lost to me
