وَماand not جِئتُI came جَهلاًout of ignorance إِنَّنيindeed I بِكِabout you عالِمٌknowledgeable
وَما جِئتُ جَهلاً إِنَّني بِكِ عالِمٌ
وَلَكِنand yet لِأُبليto offer fully فيكِconcerning you عُذراًan excuse إِلىto نَفسيmy soul
وَلَكِن لِأُبلي فيكِ عُذراً إِلى نَفسي
I did not come in ignorance; indeed, I know you.
I came not ignorant of you, I knew you well,
But to make my full excuse to my own soul concerning you.
But to excuse myself before my soul,
رَأَيتُكِI found you لاnot تَجزينَyou repay وُدّيmy love بِمِثلِهِwith its like
رَأَيتُكِ لا تَجزينَ وُدّي بِمِثلِهِ
بِشانيكِupon your hater ماwhat أَصبَحتُI was at morning فيهِin it وَماand what أُمسيI am at evening
بِشانيكِ ما أَصبَحتُ فيهِ وَما أُمسي
I found that you do not return my love in kind.
I saw you would not requite my love with love,
May your hater endure what I endure, morning and evening.
Yet in your honor I remain morn and eve.
