He departs, and I cannot see him off,
He journeys, so do not escort him, though able;
out of fear, nor welcome him when he arrives.
Beware greeting him when he arrives.
فَقَلبيfor my heart إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle سارَhe departs حِلفُan ally صَبابَةٍardent longing

For when he departs, my heart is an ally of longing,
For when my heart traveled, it swore an oath,
and when he arrives, my heart is enslaved by love.
And when it returned, it was stricken with grief.
