They gladdened some eyes and made other eyes weep.

ظَلومُ أَيا مَن أَحَلَّ الفُؤا

ظَلومُ أَيا مَن أَحَلَّ الفُؤا

دَ شَوقاً وَأَجرى دُموعي هَتونا

دَ شَوقاً وَأَجرى دُموعي هَتونا

Zalum, O you who filled the heart

Oppressors! O you who ignited longing

with longing and made my tears pour down.

And let my tears flow copiously.

أَلا لَيتَ شِعري عَلى نَأَيِكُم

أَلا لَيتَ شِعري عَلى نَأَيِكُم

أَناسونَ لِلعَهدِ أَم ذاكِرونا

أَناسونَ لِلعَهدِ أَم ذاكِرونا

Ah, if only I knew, though you are far away:

Alas! I wish I knew whether with your absence

Have you forgotten the pledge, or do you remember it?

You forgot the covenant or still remembered us.

فَلا لَومَ إِن ساءَ ظَنّي بِكُم

فَلا لَومَ إِن ساءَ ظَنّي بِكُم

فَكُلُّ مُحبٍّ يُسيءُ الظُنونا

فَكُلُّ مُحبٍّ يُسيءُ الظُنونا

So there is no blame if I think ill of you,

So do not blame me if I think badly of you all,

for every lover harbors ill suspicions.
