اللَهُGod يَعلَمُknows مَنwho تَغَيَّرَhas changed قَلبُهُhis heart
مِنّيof me وَمِنكِand of you وَمَنand who سَلاhas forgotten love وَتَبَدَّلاand has changed
God knows whose heart has changed—
God knows whose heart has changed
Mine or yours—and who has forgotten love and changed.
Of mine and yours, and who turned away
وَلَقَدand indeed بَلَوتِyou have tested مَوَدَّتيmy affection فَوَجَدتِنيso you found me
أَوفىmore faithful وَأَحفَظَand more mindful فيin المَغيبِabsence وَأَوصَلاand more constant in love
And indeed, you have tested my affection and found me
You've tested my affection, and found me
More faithful, more mindful in absence, and more constant in love.
The most loyal, and true in absence, steadfast in love
لَوif كُنتُI was أَقدِرُI am able ياO ظُلَيمَةُZulayma لَمnot أَغِبI am absent
عَنكُمfrom you وَأَتَّخِذِand I take الجَزيرَةَAl-Jazira مَنزِلاa home
If I could, O Zulayma, I would not be absent
If I could choose, O Zulaymah, I'd not be far
From you, nor make Al-Jazira my home.
From you, but make this island my home
