اللَهُ يَعلَمُ ما أَرَدتُ بِهَجرِكُم

اللَهُ يَعلَمُ ما أَرَدتُ بِهَجرِكُم

إِلا مُصانَعَةَ العَدوِّ الكاشِحِ

إِلا مُصانَعَةَ العَدوِّ الكاشِحِ

God knows I intended nothing by shunning you

God knows I did not mean to shun you

but to placate the spiteful enemy.

Only to appease the raging enemy

وَعَلِمتُ أَنَّ تَباعُدي وَتَسَتُّري

وَعَلِمتُ أَنَّ تَباعُدي وَتَسَتُّري

أَوفى لِوَصلِكِ مِن دُنوٍّ فاضِحِ

أَوفى لِوَصلِكِ مِن دُنوٍّ فاضِحِ

And I knew that my keeping away and concealing myself

And I knew keeping my distance, hiding

better preserved my bond with you than a compromising closeness.

Would better serve our bond than brazen intimacy
