صَيَّرَكِhas brought you الدَهرُtime إِلىto ماwhat أَرىI see
صَيَّرَكِ الدَهرُ إِلى ما أَرى
أَستَنصِرُI seek help from اللَهَGod عَلىagainst الدَهرِtime
أَستَنصِرُ اللَهَ عَلى الدَهرِ
Fate has brought you to the state I see.
Time has brought you to what I see.
I call on God for aid against Fate.
I seek God's help against time.
وَقَدand once أَرانيI see myself زَمَناًfor a time كُلَّماwhenever
وَقَد أَراني زَمَناً كُلَّما
قَسَوتِyou were harsh رَوَّعتُكِI frightened you بِالهَجرِwith abandonment
قَسَوتِ رَوَّعتُكِ بِالهَجرِ
Yet Fate once showed me a season when, whenever
And I recall a time: whenever
you hardened your heart, I terrified you with abandonment.
you were harsh, I frightened you with abandonment.
أَظُنُّنيI think that I عوقِبتُI was punished إِذbecause لَمnot أَكُنI was
أَظُنُّني عوقِبتُ إِذ لَم أَكُن
قَبِلتُI accepted مِنكِfrom you اليُسرَgentleness فيin يُسريmy ease
قَبِلتُ مِنكِ اليُسرَ في يُسري
I think I was punished because I had not
I think I was punished because I had not
accepted the little from you in my days of ease.
accepted your gentleness when I was at ease.
