There is no healer for the wounds within the heart.

So endure despair, O you who face despair.

How loathsome people are to my eye, and how ugly,

when I look and do not see you among the people.

How long must my liver remain burning, parched with thirst,

while nothing softens your hard heart?

O striker of the fire-stick that has wearied its strikers,

draw fire, if you wish, from my heart with a measuring rod.

Were I to call an ibex as I call to you,

it would surely come to me from the heights of a towering, firmly rooted mountain.
