أَياO مَنyou who لاnot يُجيبُreplies إِذاwhen كَتَبناwe write
أَيا مَن لا يُجيبُ إِذا كَتَبنا
وَلاnor هُوَhe يَبتَديناtakes the initiative with us بِالكِتابِby letter
وَلا هُوَ يَبتَدينا بِالكِتابِ
O you who never answers when we write,
O you who do not reply when we write,
nor are you one to write to us first:
nor take the initiative to write to us—
أَماIs there not فيin حَقِّthe claim of حُرمَتِناthe respect due to us لَدَيكُمwith you
أَما في حَقِّ حُرمَتِنا لَدَيكُم
وَحَقِّand the claim of إِخائِناour brotherhood رَدُّreturning الجَوابِthe reply
وَحَقِّ إِخائِنا رَدُّ الجَوابِ
Is it not a duty owed to the regard in which you hold us,
Do not the respect you owe us
and to our brotherhood, to return a reply?
and the claims of our brotherhood call for a reply?
