خَلَوتُمyou secluded yourselves بِأَنَواعِwith kinds of السُرورِjoy هَناكُمُmay it delight you
وَأَفرَدتُمونيand you left me alone لِلصَبابَةِto passionate longing وَالحَزَنand sorrow
You have secluded yourselves with every kind of joy—may it delight you!
And left me alone to longing and sorrow.
أَتَستَحسِنونَdo you deem good? الهَجرَestrangement نَفسيmy soul فِداؤُكُمyour ransom
أَلاindeed كُلُّall ماthat اِستَحسَنتُمُyou deem good فَهُوَthen it is الحَسَنgood
Do you deem estrangement good? My soul be your ransom!
Indeed, all that you deem good is good.
أَرىI find الحُبَّlove حَلواًsweet كَاِسمِهِlike its name غَيرَexcept أَنَّهُthat it
مُنَغِّصُa spoiler of لَذّاتٍpleasures ثَقيلٌheavy عَلىupon البَدَنthe body
I find love sweet, like its name, except that it
spoils pleasures and weighs heavily on the body.
وَعَذَّبتُمونيand you tormented me بِالجَفاءِwith coldness وَإِنَّنيand indeed I
لَراضٍam indeed content بِماwith what تَرضَونyou deem fit ليfor me وَهُوَthough it is الغَبَنinjustice
And you have tormented me with coldness, yet I
am indeed content with what you deem fit for me, though it means being wronged.
