Two beloveds met by chance, without an appointed meeting,
and every ill-wisher was kept from their private conversation.

The eye’s lids grew weary of holding back its water,
so they could not restrain the flood of streaming tears.
وَإِنّيand indeed I لَأَطويI surely conceal السِرَّthe secret عَنfrom كُلِّevery صاحِبٍfriend

And I indeed conceal the secret from every friend,
even if, in keeping secrets, he were the equal of the ribs.
