My eye wept over my body,

yet my eye is the body's bane.

    And my eye keeps reaping

    calamities, all of them growing.

And it led me to someone

who regards killing me as gain.

So, O one who will not grant me

    fairness in judgment,

    فَأَدعوهُ إِلى السِلمِ

    and calls me to war,

    while I call him to peace;

and whose promised time is near,

yet whose bounty is with the stars:

    I visit you with caution,

and forsake you against my will.

And you have gone too far in wronging me—

so, oh, save me from injustice!
