لاdo not تَجمَعيcombine هَجراًestrangement عَليَّupon me وَغُربَةًand exile
لا تَجمَعي هَجراً عَليَّ وَغُربَةً
فَالهَجرُfor estrangement فيin تَلَفِthe ruin of الغَريبِthe exile سَريعُswift
فَالهَجرُ في تَلَفِ الغَريبِ سَريعُ
Do not add your forsaking of me to my exile;
Do not burden me with both estrangement and exile;
for forsaking is swift to destroy the exile.
For estrangement swiftly brings the exile to ruin.
مَنwho ذاis it فَدَيتُكِmay I be your ransom يَستَطيعُcan لِحُبِّهِfor his love
مَن ذا فَدَيتُكِ يَستَطيعُ لِحُبِّهِ

Who—may I be your ransom—can keep his love
Who, may I be your ransom, can keep his love
concealed, when ribs enfold it?
concealed once his ribs have enfolded it?
