أَنَّ الَّتي حَدَّثَتكِ قَد كَذَبَت

أَنَّ الَّتي حَدَّثَتكِ قَد كَذَبَت

وَأَدرَكَت عِندَكِ الَّذي طَلَبَت

وَأَدرَكَت عِندَكِ الَّذي طَلَبَت

The woman who spoke to you has indeed lied,

And gained from you what she sought.

اِستَفهِمي قِصَّتي وَقِصَّتَها

اِستَفهِمي قِصَّتي وَقِصَّتَها

أُخبِركِ عَنها بِقُبحِ ما صَنَعَت

أُخبِركِ عَنها بِقُبحِ ما صَنَعَت

Inquire into my story and hers;

I will tell you about her—how vile her deed was.

أَقبَلتُ أَسعى إِلَيكِ مُكتَتِماً

أَقبَلتُ أَسعى إِلَيكِ مُكتَتِماً

فَأَعرَضَت دونَكُم وَقَد عَلِمَت

فَأَعرَضَت دونَكُم وَقَد عَلِمَت

I came hurrying to you in secret,

Then she crossed my path before I reached you, though she knew

أَن لَيسَ شَيءٌ في الأَرضِ يَعدِلُكُم

أَن لَيسَ شَيءٌ في الأَرضِ يَعدِلُكُم

عِندي وَتَوكيدَ أَمرِنا شَهِدَت

عِندي وَتَوكيدَ أَمرِنا شَهِدَت

That nothing on earth could equal you

In my eyes, and had witnessed the affirmation of our bond.

فَقُلتُ كَالمُشتَهي لِما ذَكَرَت

فَقُلتُ كَالمُشتَهي لِما ذَكَرَت

اِنطَلِقي أَتَّبِعكِ فَاِنطَلَقَت

اِنطَلِقي أَتَّبِعكِ فَاِنطَلَقَت

So I said, as though eager for what she mentioned:

“Go ahead; I will follow you.” So she went.

أَخلَفتُها وَعدَها وَجِئتُكُمُ

أَخلَفتُها وَعدَها وَجِئتُكُمُ

فَعِندَها يا حَبيبَتي غَضِبَت

فَعِندَها يا حَبيبَتي غَضِبَت

I broke my promise to her and came to you;

At that, my beloved, she grew angry.

فَأَقسَمَت لا تَزالُ جاهِدَةً

فَأَقسَمَت لا تَزالُ جاهِدَةً

تُفسِدُ ما بَينَنا وَقَد فَعَلَت

تُفسِدُ ما بَينَنا وَقَد فَعَلَت

So she swore she would never cease striving

To ruin what lies between us—and she has done so.
