لَناto us مِنكِof you فيin الأَحلامِdreams وَالناسُwhile people نُوَّمُasleep
You grew angry because sleep generously granted a glimpse
Of you to us in dreams, while people lay asleep.
وَلاand no ذَنبَfault ليis mine لَوif كُنتُI was أَعلَمُI know لَمdid not أَنَمI sleep
وَلَكِنَّنيbut I فيماin what بَقيremains سَوفَshall أَعلَمُI know
And I am blameless: had I known, I would not have slept.
But henceforth I shall know better.
سَأَحجُبُI shall bar عَنfrom عَينيmy eye الكَرىslumber وَأَذودُهُand I shall repel it
بِذِكرِكِby remembering you فَاِرضَيso be pleased لَستُI am not ماas long as عِشتُI live أَحلَمُI dream
I shall keep slumber from my eye and drive it away
By remembering you; so be pleased—I shall not dream as long as I live.
