قُلتُI said غَداةَon the morning of السَبتِSaturday إِذwhen قيلَit was said ليto me
إِنَّindeed الَّتيshe whom أَحبَبتَهاyou loved her شاكِيَهailing
I said on Saturday morning, when I was told,
“She whom you love is ailing,”
ياO أَيُّهاyou القائِلُthe speaker ماwhat تَشتَكيdoes she suffer from
قالَhe said بِهاafflicting her عَينٌan evil eye تُرىis seen بادِيَهapparent
“O you who speak, what ails her?”
He said, “She is afflicted by the evil eye, plain to see.”
فَقُلتُso I said عِنديI have إِنif تَشَأyou wish رُقيةٌa healing incantation
لاnot تَقصِدُaims العَينُthe evil eye لَهاat her ثانِيَهa second time
So I said, “If you wish, I have a healing incantation:
The evil eye will not strike her a second time.”
قَرَأتُI recited حاHa (letter name) ميمَMim (letter name) وَعوَّذتُهاand I invoked protection for her
بِالطورِwith al-Tur (The Mount) طَوراًonce ثُمَّthen بِالغاشِيَهwith al-Ghashiyah (The Overwhelming)
I recited Ha Mim and invoked protection for her
With al-Tur once, then with al-Ghashiyah.

“O Lord, hear and answer my prayer:
Bring swift healing to my lady.”
