أَصبَحتُI have become أَطوَعَmost obedient خَلقِcreatures of اللَهِGod كُلِّهِمُall of them
نَفساًin soul لِأَكثَرِto the most خَلقِcreatures of اللَهِGod عِصياناin disobedience
I have become the most obedient of all God's creatures,
in soul, to the most disobedient of God's creatures.
فَلاso no كِتابٌletter فَدَتكِmay it be your ransom النَفسُthe soul يُضحِكُناmakes us laugh
فَقَدfor indeed أَتاناhas come to us كِتابٌa letter مِنكِfrom you أَبكاناmade us weep
So no letter—may my soul be your ransom—makes us laugh;
for a letter from you has come to us and made us weep.
