أَقولُI say لَهاto her وَدَمعُwhile tears العَينِof the eye يَجريflow
أَقولُ لَها وَدَمعُ العَينِ يَجري
سَبيلُthe path الحَقِّof truth لَيسَthere is not بِهِin it خَفاءُobscurity
سَبيلُ الحَقِّ لَيسَ بِهِ خَفاءُ
I say to her as tears flow from my eyes:
I say to her while the tears flow from my eyes
The path of truth has no obscurity.
The path of truth has no concealment
إِذاif كانَis التَعَتُّبُreproach مِنfrom خَليلٍa dear friend
إِذا كانَ التَعَتُّبُ مِن خَليلٍ
لِمَوجِدَةٍbecause of hurt فَلَيسَthen there is no لَهُfor it بَقاءُcontinuance
لِمَوجِدَةٍ فَلَيسَ لَهُ بَقاءُ
If reproach comes from a dear friend
If complaining of a friend
out of hurt, it will not last;
Is for a found fault, it cannot last
وَلَكِنand yet إِنif تَجَنّىhe fabricates الذَنبَthe offense عَمداًdeliberately
وَلَكِن إِن تَجَنّى الذَنبَ عَمداً
أَزالَhe destroys الوِدَّaffection وَانقَطَعَand is cut off الرَجاءُhope
أَزالَ الوِدَّ وَانقَطَعَ الرَجاءُ
but if he deliberately invents an offense,
But if one willfully commits a sin
he destroys affection, and hope is cut off.
Affection is lost and hope cut off
