أَبكيI weep إِذاwhen سَخِطَتshe is displeased حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen رَضيَتshe is pleased
بَكَيتُI wept عِندَat الرِضاcontentment مِنout of خَشيَةِfear of الغَضَبِanger
I weep when she is displeased; when at last she is pleased,
I weep while she is pleased, for fear of her anger.
أَتوبُI repent مِنbecause of سُخطِهاher displeasure خَوفاًin fear إِذاwhen سَخِطَتshe is displeased
فَإِنbut if سَخِطتُI am displeased تَمادَتshe persists ثُمَّthen لَمnot تَتُبِshe repents
I repent in fear of her displeasure when she is displeased;
But if I am displeased, she persists, then does not repent.
فَالحُزنُso sorrow إِنif سَخَطَتshe is displeased وَالخَوفُand fear إِنif رَضيَتshe is pleased
أَنthat لاnot يَتِمَّbe complete الرِضاcontentment فَالقَلبُso the heart فيin تَعَبِweariness
So there is sorrow if she is displeased, and fear if she is pleased,
That her contentment may not last—so the heart is weary.
