مَنthe one who كانَwas أُنساًcomfort وَزَيناand adornment
O Lord, bring back to us
O Lord, bring back to us
the one who was our solace and adornment,
The one who was our comfort and adornment,
مَنthe one who لاnot نُسَرُّwe are gladdened بِعَيشٍby life
حَتّىuntil يُكونَhe is لَدَيناwith us
the one without whom we take no joy in life
The one—we take no joy in life
until he is here beside us.
Until he is here with us.
ياO مَنyou who أُتيحُwas allotted لِقَلبيto my heart
هَواهُlove of him شُؤماًill fortune وَحَيناand death
O you whose love was fated for my heart
O you—to my heart was allotted
as ill fortune and doom,
Love of you as ill fortune and death.
مازِلتُI have remained مُذsince غِبتَyou went away عَنّيfrom me
مِنamong أَسخَنِhottest الناسِpeople عَيناin the eye (with grief)
ever since you vanished from me, I have remained
Since you went away from me, I have remained
among the most tearful-eyed of all people.
Among those whose eyes burn hottest with grief.
ماnot كانَwas حَجُّكَyour pilgrimage هَذاthis

This love of yours has been
This pilgrimage of yours was
nothing but an affliction upon us.
Nothing but an affliction upon us.
