Fawz, what harm would it do you to comfort me
What gain is it to you that you cheer me
with a girdle, a ring, or a sash?
With bracelets, rings, or scarves?

If I enter the garden, your scent is recalled to me
If I enter the garden, its breeze reminds me of you—
by the fragrance of eglantine and apples.
The scent of jasmine and apple.

I envy the wind for touching you in my stead.
I envy the breeze that touches you without me.
What have I overlooked, after the winds?
What more can I long for besides the winds?

Every land where you dwell—
Every land you dwell in needs no lamp—
its inhabitants have no need of a lamp.
Its inhabitants gain light from your face.
