سَأَصرِمُ فَوزاً وَلا ذَنبَ لي

سَأَصرِمُ فَوزاً وَلا ذَنبَ لي

إِذا ما صَرَمتُ المَذوقَ المَلولا

إِذا ما صَرَمتُ المَذوقَ المَلولا

I shall forsake Fawz, and no fault is mine,

I shall break with Fawz, and bear no blame

when I forsake the inconstant one, so quick to weary;

if I break with one false-hearted and quick to tire.

وَأَصرِفُ نَفسي إِلى غَيرِها

وَأَصرِفُ نَفسي إِلى غَيرِها

إِلى مَن يَكونُ بِصَرمي بَخيلا

إِلى مَن يَكونُ بِصَرمي بَخيلا

and turn my soul toward someone other than her—

And I shall turn myself toward another,

toward one who jealously hoards my gaze.

toward one who will be loath to forsake me.
