A letter from one wronged to a wrongdoer.
A book of the oppressed to the oppressor
He complains to him of unceasing heartache.
Complaining to him of burning adversity
ياO أَيُّهاyou الجائِرُthe unjust one فيin حُكمِهِhis judgment
هَلُمَّcome إِنif شِئتَyou wish إِلىto حاكِمِa judge
O you who are unjust in your judgment,
O you who are unjust in your rule
Come, if you wish, before a judge.
Come if you wish to the judge
ماnot أَنتَyou بِالمُحسِنِkind فيماin what نَرىwe see
مِنكَfrom you وَلاnor وَصلُكَyour affection بِالدائِمِlasting
You are not kind, judging by what we see
You are not good in what we see
Of you; nor does your affection endure.
From you, nor is your link with the Eternal

I spend my whole night lovesick,
I spent my night confused
I am neither awake nor asleep.
Awake but not asleep

You have overstepped every bound in injustice.
You exceeded the utmost in injustice
O beloved, had you been fair, you would not have sinned.
O beloved, had you been fair, you would not have sinned
