O estrangement, leave love alone, and let love

be sweet for lovers, O estrangement.

What do you want from those whose hearts

are sick, and whose hearts are filled with embers?

And the racing tears upon their cheeks

are pearls pouring forth as though they were rain.

They are changed by love; their complexions

are yellow from what their hearts conceal.

Stricken on love's bridge by their misery,

they strive for patience, yet have no patience.

They have drunk nothing but love, so it is as though they

are intoxicated by the severity of what they have endured.

Were it not for estrangement blocking the paths of love,

pride born of love would enter the lover.
