دَعينيlet me أمُتI die لَمdid not آتِI bring فيin الحُبِّlove بِدعَةًan innovation
دَعيني أمُت لَم آتِ في الحُبِّ بِدعَةً
وَلَمand not أَكُI was فِيماin what لُمتِنيyou reproached me فيهِfor it أَوحَداalone
وَلَم أَكُ فِيما لُمتِني فيهِ أَوحَدا
Let me die; I have done nothing unprecedented in love,
Let me die, for I have not innovated in love
nor was I alone in what you reproached me for.
Nor have I been, where they blame me, alone
وَخَبَّرتِنيand you told me عَنof هَجرِهاher abandonment فَنَعَيتِso you announced the death ليto me
وَخَبَّرتِني عَن هَجرِها فَنَعَيتِ لي
حَياتيmy life وَكانَand was الهَجرُabandonment لِلمَوتِfor death مَوعِداan appointment
حَياتي وَكانَ الهَجرُ لِلمَوتِ مَوعِدا
And you told me of her abandonment, thus announcing to me
And she told me of her estrangement, so she announced to me
my life's end; and abandonment was an appointment with death.
My life, though estrangement was fated for death
