قولاSay (you two) لِمَنto the one who كَتَبَwrote الكِتابَthe letter بِكَفِّهِwith his hand
قولا لِمَن كَتَبَ الكِتابَ بِكَفِّهِ
إِرحَمhave mercy on فَدَيتُكَmay I be your ransom ذِلَّتيmy abasement وَخُضوعيand my submission
إِرحَم فَدَيتُكَ ذِلَّتي وَخُضوعي
Say, you two, to him who wrote the letter with his hand:
Say to the one who wrote the book with his hand,
Have mercy on my abasement and submission—may I be your ransom.
Have mercy, I implore you, on my humiliation and submission,
مازِلتُI have not ceased أَبكيI weep مُذsince قَرَأتُI read كِتابَكُمyour (plural) letter
مازِلتُ أَبكي مُذ قَرَأتُ كِتابَكُم
حَتّىuntil مَحَوتُI erased سُطورَهُits lines بِدُموعيwith my tears
حَتّى مَحَوتُ سُطورَهُ بِدُموعي
I kept weeping from the time I read your letter,
I have not ceased crying since I read your book,
until I erased its lines with my tears.
Until I erased its lines with my tears.
