وَذِكرُكِand remembrance of you رَيحانيmy fragrant herb إِذاwhen دارَتِwent round الكاسُthe cup
وَذِكرُكِ رَيحاني إِذا دارَتِ الكاسُ
My drinking companions smell the fragrant herbs among them;
My remorse scents the breeze between them
and remembrance of you is my fragrant herb when the cup goes round.
And your memory is my basil when the cup goes round
وَلوand if كانَwere to يَلقىendure الناسُpeople مِنof لاعِجِthe burning torment of الهَوىlove

عَشيرَ الَّذي أَلقى إِذاً هَلَكَ الناسُ
And if people endured, of love’s burning torment,
And if people met with the perplexity of passion
a tenth of what I endure, then people would perish.
Then the clan I met would be the end of people
