وَآلَيتِ أَن لا تَكتُبي فَفَجَعتِني

وَآلَيتِ أَن لا تَكتُبي فَفَجَعتِني

بِأَكبَرِ شَيءٍ مِنكِ كانَ يَكونُ

بِأَكبَرِ شَيءٍ مِنكِ كانَ يَكونُ

And you swore not to write, and so you devastated me

You promised not to write, so you grieved me

with the greatest hurt that could ever come from you.

With the greatest thing about you that could be

فَأَحيي فَتىً قَد ماتَ هَمّاً وَكَفِّرِي

فَأَحيي فَتىً قَد ماتَ هَمّاً وَكَفِّرِي

يَمينَكِ إِن كانَت عَلَيكِ يَمينُ

يَمينَكِ إِن كانَت عَلَيكِ يَمينُ

So revive a young man who has died of sorrow, and atone for

Revive a young man who died of worries and forgive

your oath, if an oath is binding upon you.

Your oath if you swore one

فَلَو أَنَّ ما أَشكو إِلَيكِ شَكوتُهُ

فَلَو أَنَّ ما أَشكو إِلَيكِ شَكوتُهُ

إِلى صَخرَةٍ كانَت لِذاكِ تَلينُ

إِلى صَخرَةٍ كانَت لِذاكِ تَلينُ

For if I voiced the same complaint I voice to you

If what I complain of to you I complained

to a rock, it would soften at that.

To a rock, it would soften for that

وَفي القَلبِ ما لا يَنبَغي أَن أَبُثَّهُ

وَفي القَلبِ ما لا يَنبَغي أَن أَبُثَّهُ

سِواكِ عَلى أَنَّ الرَسولَ أَمينُ

سِواكِ عَلى أَنَّ الرَسولَ أَمينُ

And in my heart is what I ought not reveal

And in my heart is what should not be revealed

to anyone but you, though the messenger is trustworthy.

Except to you, since the messenger is trustworthy
