تَعيبُyou reproach الخَمرَwine وَهيَwhile it is شَرابُthe drink of كِسرىKisra
تَعيبُ الخَمرَ وَهيَ شَرابُ كِسرى
وَيَشرَبُand drink قَومُكَyour people العَجَبَthe marvel العَجيباwondrous
وَيَشرَبُ قَومُكَ العَجَبَ العَجيبا
You reproach wine, though it is the drink of Kisra,
You blame the wine but it is the drink of kings
while your people drink a wondrous marvel.
And your people drink the miracle drink
مَنِيُّsemen العَبدِof the slave عَبدِthe slave of بَنيthe sons of سُواجٍSuwaj
مَنِيُّ العَبدِ عَبدِ بَني سُواجٍ
أَحَقُّmore deserving مِنَthan المُدامَةِwine أَنthat تَعيباyou reproach
أَحَقُّ مِنَ المُدامَةِ أَن تَعيبا
The semen of the slave—the slave of Banu Suwaj—
The semen of the slave is a slave for the Banu Suwaj
is more deserving of your reproach than wine.
