لَقَدindeed جارَيتَyou contended ياO اِبنَson of أَبيAbu (father of) جَريرٍJarir
عَذوماًa biting foe لَيسَdoes not يُنظِرُكَgrant you respite المِطالاstalling
You have indeed contended, O son of Abu Jarir,
O son of Abu Jarir, you have wronged me
with a biting foe who grants you no time to stall.
With cruelty, leaving no respite for me
نَصَبتَyou aimed إِلَيَّat me نَبلَكَyour arrows مِنfrom بَعيدٍafar
فَلَيسَso it is not أَوانَthe time تَدَّخِرُyou hoard النِصالاthe arrowheads
You aimed your arrows at me from afar,
You launched your arrows at me from afar
so this is no time to hoard your arrowheads.
Yet now is not the time to hoard your missiles
فَلاso no وَأَبيكَby your father ماnot يَسطيعُcan withstand قَومٌa people
إِذاif لَمnot يَأخُذواthey take مِنّاfrom us حِبالاpledges of protection
No, by your father, no people can withstand—
No, by your father, a people cannot prevail
unless they take pledges of protection from us—
If they do not take ropes from us
عَرارَتَناour might وَإِنand even if كَثُرواthey are numerous وَعَزّواand they are mighty
وَلاnor يَثنونَthey bend أَيدِيَناour hands الطِوالاlong
our might, though they be many and mighty,
Our bareness, though they be many and mighty
nor can they bend our long hands.
Will not make our long hands recoil
وَماnor is اليَربوعُthe jerboa مُحتَضِناًclasping to its breast يَدَيهِits two forepaws
بِمُغنٍof any help عَنto بَنيthe sons of الخَطَفىal-Khatafa قِبالاa sandal-thong's worth
Nor is the jerboa, clasping its forepaws to its breast,
The fluttering one, cradling his hands,
of any help to the sons of al-Khatafa—not a sandal-thong's worth.
Will not avail the sons of Khatfah a thing
نَسُدُّwe block القاصِعاءَthe main burrow entrance عَلَيهِagainst it حَتّىuntil
يُنَفِّقَit uses its hidden exit أَوor يَموتَit dies بِهاin it هُزالاemaciated
We block its main burrow entrance until
We block him from grazing until
it escapes through its hidden exit or dies there, wasted away.
He spends all or dies emaciated
فَلاso do not تَدخُلenter بُيوتَthe houses of بَنيthe sons of كُلَيبٍKulayb
وَلاand do not تَقرَبapproach لَهُمbelonging to them أَبَداًever رِحالاencampments
So do not enter the houses of the sons of Kulayb,
So enter not the abodes of Banu Kulayb
nor ever approach their encampments.
Nor go near their encampments ever
تَرىyou see فيهاin them اللَوامِعَthe gleaming women مُبرِقاتٍflashing
يَكَدنَthey almost يَنِكنَfuck بِالحَدَقِwith the pupils الرِجالاmen
There you see gleaming women, flashing,
You will find shining sabers therein
who almost fuck men with their eyes.
That almost blinded the eyes of men
قَصيراتِshort الخُطاthe strides عَنwith respect to كُلِّevery خَيرٍgood
إِلىtoward السَوآتِshameful deeds مُسمِحَةًwilling رِعالاin bands
Their strides are short for any good,
Short of stature, shunning all good
but toward shameful deeds they go willingly, in bands.
Galloping wildly into evil
