لَقَدindeed تَرَكَleft الحُروبُthe wars نِساءَthe women of قَيسٍQays
لَقَد تَرَكَ الحُروبُ نِساءَ قَيسٍ
مُكِبّاتٍbent low عَلىover كُحلٍkohl مَضيضِstinging
مُكِبّاتٍ عَلى كُحلٍ مَضيضِ
The wars have indeed left the women of Qays
Bent low over stinging kohl.
أَرادواthey sought وائِلاًWa'il لِيُطَحطِحوهاto crush her
أَرادوا وائِلاً لِيُطَحطِحوها
فَبادواso they perished دونَshort of أَبطَحِهاher gravelly valley العَريضِbroad
فَبادوا دونَ أَبطَحِها العَريضِ
They sought Wa'il, to crush her,
And so perished short of her broad, gravelly valley.
