لَعَنَmay curse الإِلَهُGod مِنَof اليَهودِthe Jews عِصابَةًa band
بِالجِزعَat the valley bend بَينَbetween جُلَيجِلٍJulayjil وَصِرارِand Sirar
May God curse a band of the Jews
God cursed a gang of Jews,
At the valley bend between Julayjil and Sirar:
With cowardice between Jelejul and Sirar,
قَومٌa people إِذاwhen هَدَرَroars العَصيرُthe grape juice رَأَيتَهُمyou see them
حُمراًred عُيونُهُمُtheir eyes مِنَfrom المُسطارِthe new wine
A people—when the grape juice roars, you see them
A people, when vintage was boiled down you saw them
With their eyes red from the new wine.
With red inflamed eyes from drinking it unmixed,
ذَهَبَتwent off قُرَيشٌQuraysh بِالمَكارِمِwith noble deeds وَالعُلىand high honor
وَاللُؤمُand baseness تَحتَbeneath عَمائِمِthe turbans of الأَنصارِthe Ansar
Quraysh has carried off noble deeds and high honor,
The nobility went to Quraysh,
And baseness lies beneath the turbans of the Ansar.
While stupidity rests under the turbans of the Helpers,
فَذَرواso leave المَكارِمَnoble deeds لَستُمُyou are not مِنamong أَهلِهاthose worthy of them
وَخُذواand take up مَساحِيَكُمyour hoes بَنيsons of النَجّارِal-Najjar
So leave noble deeds alone; you are not worthy of them,
So leave nobility, you are not of those worthy of it,
And take up your hoes, sons of al-Najjar.
And take up your saws, sons of carpenters!
إِنَّindeed الفَوارِسَthe horsemen يَعرِفونَknow ظُهورَكُمyour backs
أَولادَsons of كُلِّevery مُفَسَّحٍbroad-bottomed أَكّارِtiller
Indeed, the horsemen know your backs,
The horsemen recognize your backs,
You sons of every broad-bottomed tiller.
Sons of every spineless cuckold,
وَإِذاand when نَسَبتَyou trace the lineage of اِبنَthe son of الفُرَيعَةِal-Furayʿah خِلتَهُyou think him
كَالجَحشِlike a donkey foal بَينَbetween حِمارَةٍa she-ass وَحِمارِand a he-ass
And when you trace the lineage of al-Furayʿah's son, you think him
And if you attribute to the son of al-Furay'ah his lineage,
Like a donkey foal between a she-ass and a he-ass.
He is like a stray camel between a she-ass and an ass.
