كَأَنَّas though أَباfather of مَروانَMarwan يُنزَعُis being pulled out ضِرسُهُhis molar
كَأَنَّ أَبا مَروانَ يُنزَعُ ضِرسُهُ
إِذاwhen القَومُthe people قالواthey said مَتِّعوناtreat us بِدِرهِمِwith a dirham
إِذا القَومُ قالوا مَتِّعونا بِدِرهِمِ
It is as though Abu Marwan is having his molar pulled
As if Abu Marwan was having his molar extracted
When the people say, "Treat us to a dirham."
When the people said, “Give us some fun for a dirham!”
إِذاwhen الرَقَّةُRaqqa البَيضاءُthe white لاحَتcame into view فُروجُهاits openings
إِذا الرَقَّةُ البَيضاءُ لاحَت فُروجُها
فَدىransomed كُلُّevery عَطّارٍperfumer بِهاin it أُمَّmother of مَريَمِMaryam
فَدى كُلُّ عَطّارٍ بِها أُمَّ مَريَمِ
When the openings of white Raqqa come into view,
When the white tenderness of her thighs appeared
Every perfumer there would ransom Umm Maryam.
Every perfumer would ransom her with his mother Mary
