وَحِبالُهُنَّand their bonds إِذاwhen عُقِدنَare knotted غُرورُdeceit
Zaynab and Qadhur have severed your bonds;
and their bonds, when knotted, are deceit.

They shoot at our hearts with languid eyes;
so their deluded lover is besotted and afflicted.

And they claimed I had forgotten youthful passion,
and ages and aeons had passed since then.

Yet whenever I say, 'I have recovered from her ailments,'
statue-like beauties, companionable and dark-eyed, stir my heart.

And whenever they raise their braids for treachery,
it is as though vows had fallen due for them.

Indeed, I hunt wild creatures in their own haunts,
so the young gazelle grows tame after its skittishness.

May God keep the Imam alive for us, for he is
the best of creation, forgiving of sins.

A light that lit the lands for us, when there had gathered
darkness in which even guides almost went astray.

from him that a bearer of glad tidings brings you.

Iraq's silver in ingots, and silk.

And Persia's daughters are selected every day;
they bed them, and no dowries are theirs.

And the horses, despite their ailments, are worn out by
a steadfast-hearted man, grateful to God.

Sunken-eyed, worn down by Ibn Yusuf, they grew gaunt,
while war, pregnant, drives them hard.

And they grew squint-eyed from the reins' jerks; drawn in
were their bellies, and the stallions had lost the urge to mate.

as he hoped to survive after he had been surrounded
by death's vanguard—Yahsib and Hajur.

So he destroyed their host and turned back, praised,
with a roar for battle against others.
