Word came to me, while my people were in al-Jazira, from Mina,
Despite their distance, that Ibn Maghra’ had risen high.
فَإِنّيso indeed I لَقاضٍsurely a judge بَينَbetween جَعدَةِJa‘da عامِرٍ‘Amir
فَإِنّي لَقاضٍ بَينَ جَعدَةِ عامِرٍ
وَسَعدٍand Sa‘d قَضاءًa judgment يَتبَعُfollows الحَقَّthe truth فَيصَلاdecisive
وَسَعدٍ قَضاءً يَتبَعُ الحَقَّ فَيصَلا
So I shall surely judge between Ja‘da of ‘Amir
And Sa‘d, with a decisive judgment that follows the truth.

وَعَوفُ بنُ كَعبٍ كانَ أَكرَمَ أَوَّلا
Abu Ja‘da is the wolf, whose food is foul,
And ‘Awf ibn Ka‘b was nobler from the first.

The ravenous dogs spurn your flesh,
Yet they feed on the offspring of Sa‘d and Nahshal.
