And at the valley bend of Khaffan I kept company with a band,

sound in body, their eyes languishing.

For if youth has indeed departed, Umm Malik,

slender-waisted women still visit me, their tresses drooping.

And many a night, like a Persian's cloak, I spent in pleasure

with a full-hipped, swaying company, slender-waisted, their bellies flat.

When the riders urged them on, the most delightful among them

to a man of youthful passion were the resentful and the balking.

When a debtor puts off payment, they, by contrast,

have debts that fall due at every moment.
