لَكُم بِالمَخازي يَومَ أَبقَينَ مَتيَحُ
Why did you not make your camels kneel before Ibn Wahf? For he
Why not conclude a pact with the son of Wahf, for he
was ready to bring you shame on the day of Abqayn.
Will provide you on the day of crisis with sure mounts;

بِبَطحاءِ ذي قارٍ صَلادِمُ قُرَّحُ
And your women were brought back to you, riding pillion,
And he turned upon you the wives of your women
on Dhi Qar's pebbly plain, by sturdy, full-grown steeds.
On the plain of Dhi Qar, a piercing calamity;

Then blows and spear-thrusts rescued them,
So he saved them from blows and stabs of the spears
and hands that wounded the battalion's champions,
With hands aided by the heroes of the battalion who wounded;

And every long-armed one as though he were
a prized camel stallion, proudly swishing his tail, towering over men, tall and long-limbed.
A noble steed who takes the people unawares with his spearpoint.
