حُبَيبُHubayb بنُson of عَتّابٍAttab أَرىI see الأَمرَthe affair جَنبَةًestrangement; aloofness
حُبَيبُ بنُ عَتّابٍ أَرى الأَمرَ جَنبَةً
فَلاso no وَرَعٌrestraint; shrinking back إِنَّindeed القِناعَthe helmet; head-covering بِجُندَبِwith Jundab
فَلا وَرَعٌ إِنَّ القِناعَ بِجُندَبِ
Hubayb son of Attab, I see estrangement in this affair;
The beloved Hubayb ibn 'Attab, I see the matter seriously
so no shrinking back: indeed, the helmet is with Jundab.
So no piety, the sheath with locust
فَإِنso if تَرفَعواyou (plural) raise يَرفَعwill raise فَوارِسُhorsemen مُعرِضٍof Mu‘rid
فَإِن تَرفَعوا يَرفَع فَوارِسُ مُعرِضٍ
وَإِنand if تَركَبواyou (plural) ride إِحدىone of الغَوايَةِerror; waywardness نَركَبِwe shall ride
وَإِن تَركَبوا إِحدى الغَوايَةِ نَركَبِ
So if you raise it, Mu‘rid’s horsemen will raise it;
So if you raise, the knights of Mu'arridh raise
and if you ride one of error’s paths, we too shall ride.
And if you ride, we ride one of error
