لَمdid not أَرَI see مَلحَمَةًa battle مِثلَهاlike it
فَقِفso stop ليfor me أُخَبِّركَI will tell you أَخبارَهاits news
I have never seen a battle like it;
I've never seen a battle like it
So stop for me; I will tell you its story:
So stand, let me tell you the tale
أَمَنَّmore generous عَلىto ثَعلَبٍa fox جائِعٍhungry
وَأَشبَعَand more filling لِلذِئبِfor the wolf إِنif زارَهاit visits it
More generous to a hungry fox,
He protected a hungry fox
And more filling for the wolf, should it visit it.
And fed the visiting wolf
تَرَكناwe left البُيوتَthe houses لِأَعدائِناto our enemies
وَعونَand matrons النِساءِthe women وَأَبكارَهاand their virgins
We left the houses to our enemies,
We left our homes to our enemies
And the women, matrons and virgins alike.
Along with our women and girls
