أَبلِغ عِكَبّاً وَأَشياعَها

أَبلِغ عِكَبّاً وَأَشياعَها

بَني عامِرٍ أَنَّني ظالِعُ

بَني عامِرٍ أَنَّني ظالِعُ

Tell ʿIkabb and her followers—

Convey to the clan of 'Ikab and its neighborhood

the sons of ʿĀmir—that I am limping.

The sons of 'Amir that I am setting forth

بَعَثتُم إِلَى أَشمَطٍ يافِعاً

بَعَثتُم إِلَى أَشمَطٍ يافِعاً

وَهَل يَغلِبُ الأَشمَطَ اليافِعُ

وَهَل يَغلِبُ الأَشمَطَ اليافِعُ

You sent a youth to a grizzled man;

You dispatched against Ashmaṭ a youthful man

and can the youth defeat the grizzled man?

Can the youth defeat the aged Ashmaṭ?
