دَرَىknew عميدُthe leader of بنىthe sons of الشورىconsultation بموِضعهاabout its place
دَرَى عميدُ بنى الشورى بموِضعها
فعاشَso he lived ماas long as عاشَhe lived يبنيهاhe builds it ويُعليهاand he raises it high
فعاشَ ما عاشَ يبنيها ويُعليها
The leader of the sons of consultation knew its place.
The chief of the noble council saw its proper place
So throughout his life he built it up and raised it high.
So he lived as long as he lived building it and raising it
وماand not استبدَّhe acted autocratically برأىٍwith an opinion فيin حكوِمتهhis government
وما استبدَّ برأىٍ في حكوِمته
إنّindeed الحكومةَgovernment تُغرِىtempts مُستبدّيهاits autocrats
إنّ الحكومةَ تُغرِى مُستبدّيها
Nor did he impose his own opinion in his government.
And he never imposed a sole opinion in his rule
Indeed, government tempts its autocrats.
Indeed, absolute rule corrupts its practicer
رأىُthe opinion of الجماعِةthe community لاnot تَشقىsuffers البلادُthe country بهbecause of it
رأىُ الجماعِة لا تَشقى البلادُ به
رَغمَdespite الخلافِdisagreement ورأىُand the opinion of الفردِthe individual يُشقيهاmakes it suffer
رَغمَ الخلافِ ورأىُ الفردِ يُشقيها
The community's opinion brings the country no misery,
The opinion of the group does not bring misery to the country
Despite disagreement, whereas the individual's opinion makes it suffer.
Despite disagreement, while the opinion of one brings misery upon it
