  1. يا آبد البط سباحا بلا وجل

    والماء يرقص في ذيل له فيها

    O duck, swimming endlessly without fatigue,

  4. وقد تفوق جمالا في تناسقها

    حلى لديك وتزهى في مجاليها

    You have surpassed in your harmony of beauty

  5. ما بال خلي الذي أهفو لطلعته

    يزور عني كأني من يجافيها

    Why does the narcissus I yearn for its buds

    Avoid my sight, as if shunning me?

  6. وأنت شرق إيمانا وفلسفة

    كأنما تحكم الدنيا وما فيها

    While you are the east of faith and philosophy

    As if you rule the world and all in it.

  7. أجاوز البط بعض الناس في خلق

    حتى غدا خلقه للناس تشفيها

    The duck surpassed some people in manners

    Until its manners for people give remedy.

  8. قد طار عنهم فرارا من جنايتهم

    ولم يزل أمة تعلي مباديها

    It flew away from them, fleeing their sins

    And it never stopped being a nation raising its goals.

  9. فلا يخون فريق منه شيعته

    ولا المودة تلقى من يعاديها

    No group of it betrays its brethren

    Nor is affection found in those who oppose it.

  10. والناس لذتهم تنغيص بعضهمو

    بعضا وتهديم دنياهم وبانيا

    While people’s pleasure is to spoil each other

    And demolish their world and what they built.

  11. متى أراهم ولو كالبط في حلق

    وكالطيور وفاء في تعاليها

    When will I see them like ducks in sentiment

    And birds, loyal in their sublime goals?

  12. متى أراهم وتأميلي بهم أبدا

    يحيون معجزة ما زلت راجيها

    When will I see this and my hopes in them forever

    They live the miracle I still hope for?

  13. متى أرى الحب فيهم غير مضطهد

    أو المبادىء إعزازا لأهليها

    When will I see love in them not persecuted

    Or principles honored by their people?

  14. يا من يدوس على حبي ويرهقه

    وتلك روحي أرواح لرائيها

    O you who tramples my love and exhausts it

    That is my soul - souls for its witness!

  15. هون عليك فإني غير متهم

    قد بعتها دون من من أعاديها

    Be gentle, for I am not accused

    I sold it to no one, not to those who opposed it.

  16. وما طلبت لها مالا ولا عوضا

    ولا ثناء ولا ذكرى تناجيها

    I asked for it no money nor compensation
