فأذيعها كمحاسن لجناني

I am one who seeks out my critic’s virtues,

and proclaim them as I would the virtues of my own heart.

حب الجمال أراه فوق خصومة

I see love of beauty as above hostility,

and I see beauty dispensing goodness.

وأرى الحقيقة لا تحدّ فما لنا

نهوى التعصب في غرور جان

نهوى التعصب في غرور جان

And I see that truth has no bounds; why, then, do we

love fanaticism in culpable conceit?

Why do we not search in a spirit devoted

to truth, without partisanship or abasement?

Selfishness in life is not beautiful—

no, nor the helplessness of the feeble blind man.

وإذا تأملت الخلاف وجدتهُ

وإذا تأملت الخلاف وجدتهُ

يحوي بذور الحق للإنسان

يحوي بذور الحق للإنسان

And when you ponder disagreement, you find it

holds the seeds of truth for humankind.
