وشعبكمو للذل والظلم موطئُ
Why should I offer condolences—or rather, why congratulate,
Why should I console, rather why should I congratulate
While your people are trampled by humiliation and oppression?
And your people are accustomed to humiliation and injustice

When it is said, “This one is past; his era is dead,”
If it is said this is over, its era has died
We see a new one, whose ill-omened era is worse.
We saw a new one, its era of misfortune is worse

As if sheer death is more beautiful and comfortable

Your slogan is this hypocrisy glorified
And amid the tumult of events, a fortress and a haven.
And in the clamor of events, a fortress and harbor

So who, I wonder, is the offender who does not absolve himself
