Lower your eyes, O stars, for I

gaze toward the sacred among the lights.

    ما كنت كاشفة مدى إسرائي

    You will not uncover my secret, even if I gave it to you;

you could not reveal the reach of my night journey.

This is my prayer: no call to prayer leads it

in song, nor do bells with their clamor.

The evening was awed by it, as though my contemplation

were radiance and the [melting?] of my reason in darkness.

If, in the reckoning, I am the lowliest atom,

then I am the symbols of worlds and space.

The ether sang of them and overflowed with feeling,

and quivered with inspiration for the poets.

Listen to it, O stars, for perhaps

you may be granted the inspiration you [lost?].

Where is divinity? It is around me, and has not

been hidden, though deemed a distant dream.

    فجميعه حي بلا استثناء

    It is in the rain and in all that exists;

so all of it is alive, without exception.

It existed with fathomless eternity, a poem

fiery in its melodies and echoes.

We are but parts of its metrical feet,

or else we are its images and mirrors.

It was, and will be: that is its nature.

So why my philosophy and the sharpening of my intellect?

And immortality is inherent in existence, through succession,

not at the bidding of individuals or things.

And death is one of life's forms; never has there passed away

a living being without replacement and without giving.

So contemplate it, O stars; and be generous to it,

O mind, with radiance, without ostentation.

For perhaps you alone may become a guide

to the Earth, if it listens, and to al-Jawza.
