Who told the graceful doves that he
was coming to us, so they hastened to welcome him?

They are gentleness, [like] the form of a poem
whose meanings soared for the lovesick heart.

They dance in the light of spring, as though
his rays had come as a song of his shadows.

And rain, like love, scatters around her
joy, and is like love in its coming.

They skate like lovely maidens near her
over the ice, which shimmers in all its beauty.

And the flowers in the beds, though confined,
are free, flying with their fragrance and fancy.

Images—Nature became one and grew ecstatic
in them; so each is a poet in its own likeness.

In a city where Beauty gloried in her splendor,
as poetry that glittered, enchanting in its perfection.

Wherever you walked through her, you touched her majesty,
humble even before those ignorant of it.

She rose high, like a breath of heavenly marvels
of art, and triumphed over those who forsook it.

Whatever I described to them fulfilled her due [wording unclear],

And why should I describe, when he to whom I dedicate
my poetry feels what I feel, as does his family?
